Another step forward in the planning of the new publicly-funded bridge between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan

WINDSOR, ONTARIO – A contract for professional services to examine options and complete preliminary design of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Tolling Systems for the Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) / New International Trade Crossing (NITC) project was awarded today to Delcan Corporation for a total value of $943,521.75 (taxes included).

The ITS will assist with the management of traffic through technologies and will integrate with existing ITS systems, such as variable message boards to alert traffic of traffic issues, in both Ontario and Michigan. The tolling systems designs will include ways to expedite toll collection on the new bridge such as including transponders. The products of this contract will be included in the overall P3 procurement for the DRIC project.

“The results of this contract will lay the foundations for the tolling system for the DRIC / NITC bridge, “ said Michael Cautillo, President and Chief Executive Officer for the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. “This work is yet another step forward towards the construction of the new publicly-owned crossing between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan.”

The Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) / New International Trade Crossing (NITC), is the largest and most ambitious binational border infrastructure project along the Canada – United States border. The project includes a new six-lane bridge across the Detroit River between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, associated border inspection plazas, and connections to the freeway systems in Ontario and Michigan.
